SOUTH BARRULLE PLANTATION
SOUTH
Situated at the northeast side of South Barrule Hill, it’s a local favourite for dog walkers, mountain bikers and horse riders alike. Coffee cottage is a stone’s throw from the carpark and has great opening hours as well as being dog friendly.
CRINGLE PLANTATION
SOUTH
Located on the southeast side of South Barrule, it provides a stunning back drop over the South of the island. Another local favourite for both anglers, dog walkers and mountain bikers. There’s a mixed terrain of steep plantation and well-maintained grass slopes that surround the reservoir. Can be popular for a picnic in the warmer months.
GLEN HELEN
WEST
Located on the world-famous TT course, it’s a short drive from St Johns. A fine choice for a glen walk, with its well maintained footpaths and waterfalls. Glen Helen is home to a wide array of tree species including some magnificent giant redwoods.
GLEN MAYE
WEST
Glen Maye is a picturesque glen located on the west coast, a short drive south from Peel and plenty of car parking. A renowned waterfall and rock beach await you here.
BALLAGLASS GLEN
NORTH
Ballaglass Glen is in the North of the island, between Ramsey and Laxey on the coast road. It is unconditionally a beautiful place to be, regardless of the weather. It’s well known for bluebell season as well one of local’s favourite for Autumn, being home to many broadleaved trees that create a spectacular array of yellow, golds, oranges, and browns. Ballaglass has a fast-flowing river with many plunge pools, waterfalls, and rapids.
COLBY GLEN
SOUTH
Colby Glen has two entrances which can be found along Colby Glen Road. The Colby river weaves in between the trees and down to the small waterfall. This small glen has a charm of its own and is a bit of a hidden gem.
GROUDLE GLEN
EAST
Groudle Glen is located on the East coast, a brief drive or electric tram from Douglas. You can access the glen from the top or from the beach at the bottom, it goes under a large arched bridge and has its very own waterwheel.
BISHOPSCOURT GLEN
NORTH
Bishopscourt Glen is opposite the well-known Bishopscourt mansion, with limited parking on the roadside. It has a large pond that is popular with the local ducks. Bishopscourt has a mini Tynwald hill at its entrance, you then have several options of walks from short walk to feed the ducks to a slightly longer walk to the top of the glen and then back down the opposite side.
DHOON GLEN
NORTH
Dhoon glen is located on the east coast between Ramsey and Laxey on the coast road, only minutes from Ballaglass glen. Dhoon is probably the steepest glen on the island with an uneven terrain and sometimes slippery surface down to the beautiful waterfall and beach. We recommend walking boots if you decide its for you.
GLEN MOOAR
WEST
Glen Mooar beach is located minutes south from Kirk Micheal and has a sizeable carpark,. The beach is a firm favourite for BBQ season as well as sunsets and starry nights. A short walk up the hill from the beach is Glen Mooar waterfall (Spooyt Vane) and chapel ruins dating back to the monks.
GLEN WYLLIN
WEST
Glen Wyllin beach is located a few minutes’ walk from Kirk Michael, down through the campsite. Another sunset and bbq favourite on the locals, sometimes sandy shores change a lot during a week due to wind, tides and waves. Kirk Michael is getting ever closer to the sea. I
SILVERDALE GLEN
SOUTH
Silverdale is a one of the island's family favourites, with great parking off the road and being home to a café, icecream shop, park, water powered merry-go-round as well as a pond that you can hire boats. A short walk down the river with bring you to Ballasalla and the history rich Rushen Abbey.
THE AYRES
NORTH
The Ayres are located on the front planes in the north of the island, usually a windy but sunny spot with large array of wild birds and flowers. It’s another popular dog walking, bird watching and fishing spot.
FLESHWICK
SOUTH
Fleshwick is located on the West coast a short drive north from port Erin and the last trace of civilisation before you get to Niarbyl. Very limited parking at the beach, Fleshwick is a located at the bottom of two very steep hills that are popular for fell running and walking alike. A popular camping spot if you're their first!
