Sunrise on the Isle of Man

At a mere 4am, we hopped in the van and drove up to the base of South Barrule. Passing not a single car on the journey, there was something really exciting about being awake when it seemed the whole world was still sleeping. The chilly walk to the summit fueled by a flask of hot coffee and some homemade energy bars took only twenty minutes, and before we knew could see the dawn-lit silhouettes of the South and West of the island. The rising sun cast a golden hue across the morning sky, and the once wispy clouds burst into flame. Great fingers of sunrays shot over Cronk Ny Arrey Laa which illuminated our hiking trial to the cairn at the top. Once an old fort, and said to be home of Mannanan, the God of the sea, South Barrule is the highest hill on the island. A soft melodic trill of bird began to chorus from the conifer trees of Cringle, and we enjoyed a celebratory snack at the summit! What a perfect way to start the morning.
